INFORMATION

BMW is an abbreviation of Bayerische Motoren Werke (Bavarian motor works), a German manufacturer of quality automobiles and motorcycles. The BMW logo is comprised of a white propeller blade against a blue sky reflecting BMW’s early heritage as an aircraft engine manufacturer. The company was founded by Karl Friedrich Rapp in 1913. BMW built its first motorcycle in 1923 and its first motor car in 1928. In the early thirties, BMW developed a light 6 cylinder engine which powered the classic 328 sports cars which dominated the European sporting arena and claimed the record as the first 2 liter production car to average 100 mph. The 3 Series, the most successful of BMW’s lineup has been featured numerous times as one of “Car and Driver’s Ten Best.”
